Sony Ericsson announces eighth Walkman phone

Sony Ericsson announces eighth Walkman phone: "Sony Ericsson today Liberacéd up its Walkman music phone line, adding a new W700 candybar model kitted out in a "titanium gold"-coloured casing"

I've just crossed over to the dark side, swapping my Nokia N70 for a Sony Ericsson K750i - and I have to say I'm mightily impressed. The form factor is way superior, it's lighter, battery life is significantly better (though it's GPRS as opposed to 3G), and the real killer... it actually syncs with my Mac. The N70 had started dropping contacts, losing them, failing to sync calendars, and so on.

I was also pleasantly surprised to find some solid UI improvements over Nokia, particularly in choosing destinations for text messages, handling missed calls, and so on. So 3 days in I've no regrets; I suspect there'll be some native Symbian apps I miss one day, but not yet...

Update: battery life on this thing is very impressive. I've just had 4.5 days of usage out of it before needing a recharge...

Leccy Piccy!

Continuing this years pretend-Glastonbury-isn't-cancelled theme, I'm chuffed to have snarfed a ticket for the Electric Picnic, held in Ireland during early September. Sounds like it might be getting a fair bit of mobile coverage...

How to Have a 36 Hour Day

How to Have a 36 Hour Day: "While we can never have more than 24 hours of chronological time I think it's very possible to have many more hours of functional time.  In fact, I think it's probably possible to get up to 36 hours of functional time in your day if you do a few relatiively simple things.  So without further ado, here is my prescription for the 36 hour day.  "

'Dragon' unveils flat-fee text service

'Dragon' unveils flat-fee text service: "Targeted at 16-25 year olds, Hotxt offers punters the chance to send as many texts as they like for just £1 a week. The catch is that this inclusive price is subject to network data charges and texts to people not on the Hotxt network cost more."

This is by no means the only one of these services out there now. The value-driven pricing of SMS compared to per-megabyte pricing of data clearly creates an opportunity for these services; the big question in my mind is how successfully can these kinds of businesses tug users away from SMS, under the noses of the operators?
