d.Construct

My turn at d.Construct went OK... "ish". After some embarrassing initial setup problems (a pox on Powerbooks and dual displays - I had it working before I left the office!) I rambled a bit; I could have done with more preparation and a run-through. But on a positive note my fears of running far too short were completely unfounded: the timer on Keynote revealed that I hit the 45 minute mark exactly. So I really *can* blather on about this stuff for hours.

I need more practice at this sort of thing - it's been about 2 years since I last did any public speaking. And about 4 hours until the next one, at dScape ;) But they're both warmups for the presentation on our work for Puzzler which I'm delivering at World Telemedia next week...

A couple of folks have notes from my talk - here are the slides. I hear tell there may be a PodCast at some point too...

NTT DoCoMo buys music retail chain

NTT DoCoMo buys music retail chain: "DoCoMo will initially provide Tower's 100 Japanese stores with pay-by-phone systems allowing consumers to purchase music and have it billed to their FeliCa mobile phone accounts.

Both firms also said they are considering a digital music download service partnership, and that's likely to be the real motivation behind the deal. DoCoMo gains a music brand and knowledge needed to provide such a service which could integrate perfectly with the telco's i-mode facility. Some reports claim music accounts for around half of all i-mode content sales."

Also worth considering: catalogue shopping via mobile is, I'm told, Big In Japan. CDs much surely be an in-demand item and suitable for such things.

Designing mobile audio: "The two key issues for any positive user experience are mobility and context of use. There are places where it is inappropriate to make any sounds, and there are other situations where it improves the game experience.

Spooks mobile game

Via "Lady Fifibelle" on UK-WirelessMarketing, : "According to Jamie Cason, executive producer at BBCi, which commissions the work, the project, which has cost £100,000 of licence-fee money, is 'extending the reach of TV shows' and 'exploring the different ways in which people engage with TV'."

I had a play of the game after watching the show last week, and whilst it's quite impressive, £100k seems... err "generous" ;)
