On ID cards: "the really sad thing is that Blunkett has resigned over trivialities", it's "information disaster waiting to happen" and "the cards are the wrong tool for the jobs that are being proposed for them so they will most likely remain unused at great expense". I had a curt response from my MP (who I'd faxed before Christmas) thanking me for my letter and explaining that he saw no issue with the introduction of ID cards. Thankyou Mr Lepper.

Folksonomies and yet more Flickr

On social software: I came across the term "Folksonomy" (referring to the categorisation of resources using tags in a flat namespace) for the first time. And my favourite Folksonomist, Flickr, "...get that that connection is meaningful, exceedingly meaningful, and if you can leverage that behavior, you can provide an experience orders of magnitude more interesting than when you ignore that connectedness."

More on the importance of social networks: "As physical space gets annotated with digital layers we will need some means of quickly sorting through the pile of bytes at the location to get a handful that we can skim through."

All that and a hideous reminder of our insignificance, at a scale I can't even begin to imagine. But where are all the animals?
